Obituary of Helen Marian Hopkins

HOPKINS, HELEN MARION, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Bluewater Health - Palliative Care surrounded by her family in her 64th year. Beloved wife of 42 years of Bill. Dear mother of Alison Hopkins, Hay River, N.W.T, Fraser & his wife Cathy, Cambridge and Stu & his wife Trisha, New Liskeard. Loving grandmother of Liam and Colin. Sister of Jean Baker & her husband Quentin, San Jose, Cal. Daughter-in-law of Nan Hopkins, sister-in-law of Vera & her husband Jim Riley, Marie & her husband Neil Reed and Tony & his wife Valerie Hopkins all of Ripley, Derbyshire, England. Also surviving are many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by parents Frank and Helen Wootton. Helen received her B.A. from Manchester University in Economics and Social Anthropology in 1965. She received her Teacher's Diploma in 1966. Helen taught for many years at the Rotary Childrens Centre (Pathways). She enjoyed many activities particularly singing, ceramics, painting, reading, and spoiling cats. After a long battle with Bipolar Disease, Helen found the means to successfully manage her illness. Recently she was elected to the Board of CSAL(see below), and was active with the NDP both at the local riding and provincial level. Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Helen's life will be held at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 718 Cathcart Blvd on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, friends who wish may send memorial donations to St. Bartholomew's Church, 718 Cathcart Blvd., Sarnia, N7V 2N5, Consumer Survivors Association of Lambton, 183 Christina St. S., Sarnia, N7T 2M9 or the Sarnia-Lambton N.D.P. c/o 337 Maxwell St., Sarnia, N7T 5E1.
