Obituary of David Frederick Kent
KENT, The Honourable Mr. Justice David F. – At home with his family on Saturday, July 25, 2009, David died at the age of 77, after a lengthly illness. Beloved husband of Shirley (O’Neill). Loving father of Dr. William and his wife Erin Kent and Amy Kent and her partner Chris Drielsma. Proud grandfather of Mia Kent. Dear brother of Roy Kent and Eric and his wife the late June Kent; and brother-in-law of David and his wife Marjorie O’Neill, Marion and her husband Wes Marshall. Predeceased by his sister Marie Atwood and sister-in-law Eula and her husband Bill Kirk. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed, yet fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. David was a Family Court Judge for 31 years and was an active member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Sarnia and Christ Church in Forest. He made significant contributions to the community through his involvement with the Inn of the Good Shepherd, St. John House Boys Home and Scouts Canada. As the first Family Court Judge in Sarnia, he supported the founding of the Sarnia Police Youth Bureau, Rebound, Lambton County Youth Detention Facilities, Huron House Boy’s Home and countless other programs within the Family Court. Friends will be received at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church (Vidal St. at Charlotte St.) on Wednesday, July 29th at 1 p.m. and will be officiated by The Rev. Canon Nick Wells and The Rev. Michelle Cockell. Interment to follow Hillsboro Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy friends who wish may send memorial donations to the William and Beatrice Kent Scholarship Fund, c/o St. John’s Anglican Church, 332 Devine St., Sarnia N7T 1V1 or Christ Church, P.O. A tree will be planted in memory of David Kent in the McKenzie & Blundy Memorial Forest. Dedication service Sunday, September 20th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area.
