Apologies for sending this nearly 15 years after Dr.Portis's passing. I took the Bus 257 course at Western back in 1978 in my third year of university- almost bouncing out after a near disastrous 2nd year of Science/Chemistry. This Biz course was part of my transition year to Biology(2 non science courses allowed)- and it was fun to take a course with Biz school wannabes. "Bernie" was a fun prof that focused on excellence- in the second semester part of that course. I chatted with him after class on many occasions- as he was kind and considerate in his time that he offered to our whole class. He was positive on my group's term project on newspaper recycling- still by that time not mainstream at all. He was even so kind to act as a reference in my application to medical school several years later. Eventually I did get into Meds at Western- and now after 35 years of practice here in Family Medicine in Burlington- devote a fair part of my practice time in Palliative Care fo unattached patients at our local hospice. I'm sure Dr. Portis would be smiling. Thank you Dr. Portis for the privilege of knowing you ever so briefly!
