Obituary of Roy Francis Dowding
DOWDING, Roy, Francis - It is with great sadness we announce the death of Roy Dowding on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga, the age of 91. Beloved husband of the late Joan for 59 years who died in 2013. Much loved father of Katherine & her husband Vernon, Edmonton and Ian & his wife Janice, Port Credit. Cherished grandfather of Stephen & Jordan. Predeceased by his parents Francis & Winifred Dowding. Roy was born April 10, 1924,in Ealing, Middlesex, England and the only child of Francis & Winifred. After graduating from 7 years course in mechanical engineering, he was employed by the British Petroleum Company and spent 5 years in Iran. Emigrating to Canada in 1952, Roy met and married his loving wife Joan. They were married in 1953 and moved to Sarnia where Roy accepted employment with Suncor at their Sarnia Refinery. Roy's assignment's included Operation, Engineering, Maintenance, Purchasing and Project Management. A long serving member of Grace United Church, Roy spent many years as a Cub leader and Church Elder. He was a Charter board member of the Sarnia & District Children's Centre now named Pathways. Roy was a member of the Rotary Club of Sarnia since 1977, a past president (1991-1992) and a Paul Harris Fellow. A very giving and compassionate man, Roy spent many years volunteering at Bluewater Health. He enjoyed his tennis and squash but his passion was traveling with his beloved wife Joan and spending time with his family. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 14, 2015 from 11:00 am - 1:00 p.m. at Grace United Church. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following visitation at Grace United Church with the Rev. Dr. Brad Morrision officiating. A private interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
