Obituary of John Thomas Devine
DEVINE, John Thomas - Surrounded by his family at Marshall Gowland Manor on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of the late Sarah Bernadette Devine (Quinn). He is survived by his four "eejit" children, Anne Marie Devine, Newmarket, Carmel (Ralph) D'Alessandro, Sarnia, Noreen Devine, Kitchener and Shaun (Christine) Devine, Stratford. Loving papa of Kathleen, Owen, Maggie, Michael, Jack, Sara and Julia. Brother of Edward (Rosaleen) Devine, N. Ireland, Philomena (Brian) Bell, N. Ireland and Margaret (Bernie) Bromfield, England. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews in Canada, England and Ireland, who lovingly referred to Uncle John as "The Gentleman". Predeceased by parents, Edward & Bridget Devine, sisters, Mary Devine and Nora (Patsy) McShane and brother, Leo (Margaret) Devine. John grew up in Tamnaherin, Co. Derry, N. Ireland and moved to Canada in 1957. He worked at Polysar for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a devoted family man and a talented carpenter who leaves a legacy of treasured woodwork for his family that will be passed down through the generations. John loved adventures, music and family gatherings, here and overseas where the "craic" was always good. Visitation will be at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia, 2-4 p.m. on Sunday where prayers will be offered at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Interment Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to Canadian Diabetes Association, 914 Murphy Rd., Sarnia, N7S 5C4 or the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation, 774 London Rd., Sarnia, N7T 4Y1.
