Ilona, Bella and Carolina,
Learning of Carlos' death has brought me much sadness and brought back many memories of my years spent at St. Benedict's going back to 1975-80 and 1996-2007 being in contact with the Firmin family. Watching Carlos and Carolina grow up and seeing Luis, Maria and the kids sitting in the front pew is an image etched in my mind.
May Carlos rest in peace and may you, his family, hold dear the fond memories you have of him.

Ilona and family, we extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family. I was blessed and honoured to have worked with Carlos to serve in our support staff local. He was a compassionate and principled man, and was well respected in committees that he participated in. He will surely be missed.
Following is a note from the management members of the Joint Insurance Committee:
On behalf of the Management members of the Support JIC who knew and worked with Carlos during his time on the Committee, please accept and convey our condolences and deepest sympathies to his family and close friends.
Carlos always managed to keep an even keel and an eye on the bigger picture while pursuing, with determination, the rights of his sisters and brothers who sought assistance through that committee.

Ilona and family: my sincere condolences on the loss of Carlos. I worked with Carlos at Job Connect where he tried to eliminate my computer illiteracy which to some extent, was successful. To the family of Carlos
My deepest sympathies to you. I met Carlos when I had a store in Mitton Village many years ago. He arranged co-op work for a young lady through my store. He was a very patient man through that whole experience, dealing with me as a new, unfamiliar trainer and a young lady student with an almost uncontrollable spirit and determination. He kept us both in check and calm and made it a great experience for both myself and my student. Since then, I would have occasion to run into Carlos from time to time and he remained equally pleasant. You will all be in my thoughts as you transition these difficult days ahead.

To Ilona and Isabella,
I can't remember when I first started visiting Carlos at his home but i do think it was fairly early in my employment with VHA Home Healthcare. I was sad that I was unable to stay with him until the very end but felt confident that I had left him in good hands. Carlos fought the ultimate fight. Never giving up. I always admired his determination and his will to live. To do his own research and find another way. He was always sharing new information on alternative treatments with me. I grew to look forward to my visits with Carlos. As well as discussing his health and treatments Carlos also shared his technical expertise with me, giving me tips on all the features of the new iPhone!
When the time came, I was relieved to hear that his suffering didn't linger for months. He will be greatly missed I know. And I will always remember him. May the two of you find strength in each other and support each other through this difficult time.
