Obituary of Carol Joyce Murray
MURRAY, CAROL, JOYCE (nee Pike) - Unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Bluewater Health at the age of 80. The medical attention provided by doctors and staff was fabulous! Thanks. Beloved wife of the late Glenford Murray (2007). Loving mother of Dana (Maxine), Cory (Doug), and Greg. Cherished grandmother of Ben, Zach and Josh; Angus, Olivia, and Abigail. Predeceased by sisters Jeri Branton, Marilyn Finklestein and Jacqueline Ponting. Super Mom to Jenny, her not-so-mini Dachshund, and the late Maggie. Fondly remembered by many Murrays, McCabes, Pontings, Davidsons, Ariganellos, Hillabys and Lecours. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews.
Born in Chicago, Carol lived to see the Cubs finally win the World Series. After leaving the USA, her parents moved to Oshawa, then London, and finally settled in Sarnia. Being tall for her age, she snagged a job at the A&P store and worked for years before her 16th birthday, an event which took her manager by total surprise. Post cashiering, Carol was an adept bookkeeper and an efficient and friendly Teller. She later became a private Tax Consultant where her gift and passion for working with numbers was key to her successes when dealing with CRA; her many clients will surely miss her intelligence and perseverance. We will all miss Carol's kindness, generosity and sense of humour. We hope God has paid attention to her 40 plus years of service to Grace United Church's Sunday school account.
In her later years, Carol was assisted by numerous people, and the family appreciates all that was done to keep her independent in her home. The family wants to express its deep appreciation for everything Cindy Canie has done for our mom; Carol especially appreciated the many banana breads made and delivered to the house by Cindy; never before 10 am! Mom was not a morning person.
We all hope mom is reunited with the loved ones that departed before her. We don't doubt that Dad will greet her with enthusiasm and then a sad tale about the poor performance of his beloved Detroit Lions.
At Carol's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to a charity of your choice. Messages of condolence and memories may be left at www.mckenzieblundy.com
A celebration of Carol's life will be held in the early summer of 2017. A notice will be placed in the Observer.
