Obituary of Mary Edith Ferris
FERRIS, Mary (Wiley) – After a brief illness Mary passed away with her family at her side at Bluewater Health – Palliative Care on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the age of 82. Beloved wife of the late William “Harry” Ferris. Dear mother of Bill (Angie), Sarnia, Jim (Jane), Toronto, Bob (Tricia), Sarnia and David (Andrea), Toronto. Cherished grandma of Troy, Kyle, Julia, Connor, Liam, Delaney, Harry, Adele, Norah, Emily and Jesse. Sister of Bill (Margaret) Wiley, Perth, and proud aunt of many nieces and nephews. Mary will also be sadly missed by her loving dog Skye. Predeceased by parents Dr. William & Edith Wiley and infant son John David. Mary loved life. Her family and friends meant everything to her. She grew up in Sault Ste. Marie until the age of 11 when she moved to West Toronto and attended Runnymede Elementary School and then Humberside Collegiate. In 1954, she started her nursing career at the Toronto General Hospital, following in her mother’s footsteps, and eventually became head nurse. She met the love of her life, Harry, while vacationing in Muskoka. They married in 1964 and moved to Sarnia, where Harry had started his business. She continued her career in Sarnia at Marshall Gowland Manor and Vision Nursing Home until retiring in 2001. She was active in the community, volunteering with many organizations and in 2016, was recognized for over 45 years of service with the Canadian Cancer Society. Mary’s favourite thing was spending her summers with family and friends at the cottage in Muskoka, walking her dog in Canatara Park, cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and playing games with her grandkids. She will be dearly missed by so many. Friends and family will be received at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St. Sarnia on Monday from 6-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow.
