Inge graduated from the Technische Universität Wien (Vienna University of Technology) in Vienna, Austria with an advanced degree in chemical engineering and worked three years at the Tabakregie Austria (National Tobacco Company) 1949-1952 as a chemist. In mid-December 1952, Inge sailed to Canada on the Samaria from Le Havre, France to Halifax (Pier 21), Nova Scotia, eventually ending up in London, Ontario where she joined her husband Hans. In London, Ontario, from 1953 to 1956, Inge worked at the University of Western Ontario as a biology department professor’s assistant. In 1956, Inge and her family settled in Sarnia. From 1958 until the present she was a member of the University Women's Club (60 years), becoming one of the longest living members. For a period of time Inge was President of the Music Guild in the club. Inge became a skilled fine art agent and promoter and coordinated art shows for her son, Dorian. She was also hired as a translator for chemical companies in Chemical Valley (e.g Dow Chemical and Imperial Oil).
Inge became talented in the art of silver-smithing and needlecraft and had the magic touch for anything requiring artistic expression. This included designing and creating an artistically attractive home (interior and exterior). Inge was an accomplished pianist who continued her studies under the tutelage of Gwen Beamish (music professor at Western University) and taught piano to many. She was also an amazing chef and baker specializing in Viennese cuisine. Inge was a well-rounded individual who stayed current on world events, was an avid reader, and loved to socialize and play cards. Inge had a strong will to live and because of her positive attitude and inner strength, she was able to keep her sense of humour, cope and endure with dignity her many physical hardships.
The Wist family are grateful to the wonderful CCAC and private PSW support workers that made it possible to keep our mother at home.
