Obituary of Veronica McCaffery

MCCAFFERY, Veronica Vivian “Vonnie” – Peacefully, surrounded by her family, Vonnie McCaffery died at Fiddick’s Nursing Home, Petrolia on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the age of 93.  Beloved wife of the late James Cyril McCaffery (1998).  Loving mother of Ron & his wife Cheryl, Sarnia, Dan & his wife Val, Sarnia, and Karen, Toronto. Cherished grandmother of Michael, Kathryn, Mary, Ryan, Lynn Marie, Ivan and Stephen.  Proud great-grandmother of 6.  Dear sister of Theresa Mestancik (William), Sarnia.  Also survived by her daughter-in-law Maggie, St. Catharines, son-in-law Mark, London and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son Stephen, her parents Edward & Josephine MacDonald, her siblings; Florence, Bernard, Edward, Catherine and Joseph.  Vonnie came to Southwestern Ontario in 1947 where she met Jim in St. Thomas and married in 1948.  They settled in Sarnia where they stayed and raised their family.  She loved spending time at the lake having picnics and swimming.  Vonnie made Christmas extra special for her family every year. She was an avid painter, gardener and a big fan of the Sarnia Sting.  Visitation will be held  at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 8:30 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Sarnia.  Interment Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
