Obituary of Giuseppe Ferrera
FERRERA, Giuseppe “Joe” – Joe passed away peacefully at Trillium Villa with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Liberata “Lily” for 66 years. Dear father of Rosa Palleschi (Mario) and Rick Ferrera (Maria). Loving Nonno of Claudio Palleschi (Crystal), Joanna Palleschi (Bryan), Adam Ferrera (Hayley), Daniel Ferrera and Nicholas Ferrera. Nonno Joe to his great-grandchildren Madeline and Evan Palleschi, Leah and Mason Solinas and Jade Ferrera. Brother of Loreta Benacquista (late Bernardo), Vince Ferrera (Annie) and Vito Ferrera (Emilia). Predeceased by parents Leonardo & Assunta Ferrera and brother Antonio Ferrera (Maria). Joe served in the Italian military. He came to Sarnia in 1956 to join his wife Lily. Joe was a longtime member of Local 1089 Labourers Union. He operated the Four Company Car Wash, along with 3 partners, which later became the Point Edward Car Wash in the 1980’s when he became sole owner. He was the last surviving founding member of The Dante Club, Sarnia. Joe was the manager of the club in the 70’s and held many executive board positions there. He was also a member of the Pensioners Club of Sarnia. He enjoyed gardening and loved playing cards and bocce. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Trillium Villa, especially his second family, the Sunrise staff. We would also like to thank The Alzheimer Society of Sarnia for their support. Visitation at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St. on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. with prayers being offered at 8:30 p.m. Social distancing will be enforced and masks/face coverings are mandatory. Due to the restrictions of Covid19, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by his nephew Fr. Tom Ferrera at Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Entombment at Our Lady of Mercy Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers please consider sending a pre-packaged basket of non-perishable food items to the funeral home to be distributed to the Inn of the Good Shepherd following the funeral or donations may be made in Joe’s memory to The Alzheimer Society of Sarnia, 420 East St. N., N7T 6Y5 (cheques only at the funeral home please).
