Obituary of Maureen Genevieve Sheehan
SHEEHAN (Ryan), Maureen – Maureen Genevieve passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice with her family by her side on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the age of 86. Best mother ever to Rick Sheehan (Victoria), Annie Sheehan (Gordon “Mick” McDougall), Kerry Sadoquis (Tim), Kathleen Sheehan and Dan Sheehan (Diane). Loving grandmother of Brooke Bartley (Ben), Kelly and Emily Sheehan, Sam and Evan McDougall and Joe (Linsey) and Rosie Sadoquis. Great-grandmother of Oscar, Olive, Finnegan, Felix, Logan and Hendrik Bartley. Maureen was born in Windsor, the daughter of the late Dean and Frances (Dunn) Ryan. She is survived by her siblings Father Michael Ryan of Maidstone, Tim Ryan SFM (Barry) of Toronto, Dan Ryan of Maidstone and Moya Haddad (Phil) of Windsor. She is predeceased by Richard Sheehan, her parents and her siblings Patrick Ryan, Alberta Mills, Nora Plouffe, Bridget Abrams and Sister Frances Ryan. Maureen leaves many adoring nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Maureen worked for Bell Canada for over 30 years. Our mom’s interests were vast, but always included her family. Charming and fashionable, mom was always the best-looking and best-dressed person in the room. She loved her gorgeous waterfront apartment and loved entertaining family and friends at her home in Fort Myers that she purchased with her girls. Mom had a keen interest in politics, with a very liberal outlook on life. A huge mystery reader and supporter of the Sarnia Library, mom gave frequent and often hilarious book reports on her favourite reads. Mom loved to travel with family and made several trips to Ireland, among many other places. Mom always said her greatest gift was her five children, and our greatest gift was having our wonderful mom for so long and with such great health until very recently. Despite having broken her back twice, our mom persevered with her love of walking and could be seen until late last fall with her walker, covering ground from her downtown apartment to Northgate with occasional stops for a beer or glass of wine in in our yards if we were lucky. We would like to give special thanks and love to the Palliative Care Team and St. Joseph’s Hospice, who helped care for our mom the last few weeks of her life. She received nothing but love and exceptional care. Thank you so much and please know that we are so grateful and thankful to each and every one of you.
