Obituary of Henry Michael Novak
NOVAK, Henry Michael – “I have seen and met angels in the disguise of ordinary people living ordinary lives”. That angel was our Father and Papa. Henry Michael Novak was born on March 23, 1938 in Kenora, Ontario. He was perfect and will forever be immensely adored and missed by his family and friends. A true gem and such a gentleman, Henry was the 5th child of ten born to Nellie and John Novak. On May 12, embraced in the arms of his family, God called Henry home to be reunited with the love of his life, Maria Sophie Novak (predeceased in 2020) and his much-loved daughter, Liza Marie Novak (predeceased 1985).
Henry’s greatest joy was time spent with family. His grandchildren were his most cherished possession. DQ ice cream treats, and wafer cookies were delivered by Papa weekly. Sundays were reserved for Mom and Dad dancing a few waltzes in the comfort of their home. Novak Christmas’ will forever be fondly remembered with the echoes of laughter, surprise Santa visits (each of the uncles took turns at this) and delicious feasts of traditional Polish delicacies. He was proud of his career at Dow Chemical from where he retired after 27 years.
Henry was a devoted husband for 55 years to Maria. Together, they could steal the spotlight on the dance floor at the Polish Hall doing what they loved most, the Polka. He was heartbroken to have lost his soulmate. In his earlier years, Henry enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. He never missed a Leaf’s game on tv. Henry was true to his faith.
He will fondly be remembered by his daughter Monica Johnston (Jeff). Proud Papa to Mariah Johnston (Adam Pacheco), Jack Johnston and Sarah Johnston (Jared Ratko). His name will live on as his great-grandson, Colson Henry bears his name. Also left to mourn, are his cherished siblings and best friends, Edward (Doris), Lawrence, Mimi (Bolaslo Pacan), Carl (Jay), Fran, Bernice (Tom Gardner), Danny (Trudy), Tom (Joan) and Vicky (Paul O’Connor), brother-in-law Stan Puzak (Wendy) and sister-in-law Helen Fisher (Gerry) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother-in-law Bill Dmetriuc (2020) and sister-in-law Joan Novak (2022).
A special thank you to the staff at Bluewater Health Petrolia (C.E.E.) Continuing Care and to Dr. Butler, Dr. Lilly and Dr. Clifford for their excellent care and compassion towards dad.
