Obituary of Emilia Grasso

GRASSO, Emilia – Surrounded by her family, Emilia died on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the age of 80. Beloved wife of the late Crescenzio. Loving mother of Carmela and her husband Phil Graham, Stefania and her husband Arnett Woosen and Maria-Angela and her husband Darryl Dawe. Proud Nonna of Hunter, Callie, Emilia and Marcus. Also survived by brother-in-law Raffaele and his wife Palma and their children Anna, Anthony, Fio and his wife Michelle (Michaela, Luca, Joah and Eli), her sister-in-law Maria Grasso and her many Barbato nieces and nephews, as well as her nieces and nephews in Italy, Switzerland and France. Predeceased by her parents Vincenzio and Mariangela Schiavone and her siblings Rosa, Sara and Sebastiano.

Family, laughter and warmth best describe Emilia. Leaving her home in Italy, she came to raise a family – daughters, cousins, grandchildren – with her husband Crescenzio, the love of her life. She did so with unconditional love and a contagious playfulness. Welcoming everyone with open arms, her generosity of spirit and love of cooking made everyone feel part of her family. Her many gardens will flourish well beyond her years. She will be missed dearly and her laughter will echo in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict’s Church on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
