I am so sorry to hear of David's passing. David was my first public health boss back in the early 90's in Lambton Public Health. He was a terrific boss who taught me so much and helped to shape my future in public health. David always made time for me and my co-workers. He was famous for huddles in office where he'd gladly share his wealth of knowledge and insight. He trusted me to do some innovative (aka crazy) things in the food safety arena. It was that trust and support that helped me thrive in my private sector career. David also managed the 'whole person', not just the 'employee'. He cared about us and our lives. The world is indeed a better place because David was in it. My heart-felt condolences go to Connie, the kids and the rest of his family.

The Ruffilli family all join to pass along our condolences to you. Many great memories of watching well fought hockey games while we were warmed in the stands by a Tim Hortons coffee. No one enjoyed watching his boy play hockey as much as Dave. May he rest in peace.

My first job in the early 70's at 15 years old was at Dominion Stores where Dave was my boss. Being 2 years older than I, Dave was the most worldly guy I had ever met and as a result had a huge impact on my formative years. He took me ( along with John Novorolsky and Hal Ashmore) out for my first illegal drink in a bar in downtown Toronto.. The Academy on Yonge Street where it was dark so they couldn't see how young we really were- had a Singapore Sling.. He also introduced me to golf, which I should be cursing him for given the money and frustration I still experience. My first boys trip was to Fort Lauderdale with him where he showed us how to party and I met my first girlfriend. Finally, he tried to teach me about women, which like golf, has also been a lifelong learning journey, I will always remember Dave as a good friend and mentor and his positivity and love of life are to be admired. My condolences Connie to you and the family . John McDowell

I was shocked to learn of Daves passing. My sincere condolences to the White family.
Dave and I go way back in the public health field starting at Ryerson and on the job though the years. We have shared a lot of great memories whether at work, at the many CIPHI baseball tournaments or on the golf course. Dave was always a lot of fun with great stories.
Gone but not forgotten.

Sending condolences to Connie, Allison and Shaun on the loss of your beloved husband and father. David and I spent many years working together and logged a lot of time dealing with numerous public health issues and operational challenges. He was my right-hand man and I could always rely on David. He never let me down. In retirement we spent many hours on the golf course during our weekly matches. Much of that time was spent recollecting past experiences, sharing family milestones and talking sports. I will miss you my dear friend. Rest easy.

Dear Connie, Allison, and Shaun,
The photo of David totally reflects his pizzazz! David was an amazing and thoughtful guy. Just three weeks ago, he sent me a birthday greeting with his usual comical remark. I usually reciprocate in kind, but this time I responded cordially. My friend Ted and I will miss our annual tradition of visiting David, and my brother Leo, in Sarnia, to hang out, play golf, watch the US Midterms, and dine etc. David's ability to story tell was awesome. One year on our annual Sarnia visit, the four of us went to the Detroit Auto Show. David was telling many "Leo stories" and I laughed so hard, I cried and almost fell over! David was very animated and passionate in his story telling. I remember I did not listen to David's strong recommendation on what lamb dish to order at the Greek restaurant, he frequented, in Detroit. He ordered it and I did not. He was very happy, and I was disappointed with my meal. David would often remind me of my dumb stubbornness on that trip. I thank David for the few pointers he taught me on the golf course, so I could enjoy a better round. David, we will miss you dearly! May the Good Lord give Connie, Allison and Shaun, an extra measure of His peace and comfort at this difficult time. Psalm 34:18. The LORD is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in sprit. Numbers 6:24-26. The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Love, Carlo & Edith Aiello, Toronto, Ontario

I will miss Dave terribly. A good friend who started me on the path to public health. I mentioned that the one thing I loved about the Marines was that everyday was different, rifle training one day, filling sand bags or driving a truck or fixing gear it was something new all the time. Dave said that is what Public Health is like; one day a dog biting, then a food borne outbreak or inspecting a swimming pool its always different. I thought about it and then attended Ryerson and became a PHI. CIPHI has lost a good inspector, mentor and friend. Deepest sympathies to Connie, Allison and Shaun.

I met Dave 20 years ago at a CIPHI ball tournament. Speaking with him then and later I observed the great passion and enthusiasm he held for our profession. It would be an influence on me, and I could tell on other colleagues over the years, to push ahead in our field and not give up. When an opportunity came to work with him at MLHU the decision was easy knowing what he had done there building a vector- borne disease program in a short time, one of the largest in the province, and his passion for other public health programs he had plans for.
Outside of work we had great times in Sarnia with mutual friend Leo and at his place welcomed by Connie, Shaun and Allison. He will be missed but undoubtedly remembered by students, colleagues, and friends for his enthusiasm, passion, and desire to help others and have fun.
Heartfelt condolences to Connie, Shaun, and Allison.

My condolences to Connie, Allison, and Shaun. I was so shocked to find out about Dave's passing. I met Dave about 40 years ago back in Stratford through a mutual friend, we have been friends since then he was a great guy always had something funny to say or with me, he just tried to annoy me (it worked lol) I played some ball with Dave but most of the time we were at Classics Bar in Stratford having a few pops. Dave was a great guy to talk to whether it was in fun or talking about more serious stuff. I got married about 6 years ago and Dave did me the honor of being my best Man, which he did a great job at. I Will miss the conversations we use to have even if they lasted two hours we always had alot to chat about. You will be missed by myself and my wife Sherri, we will check in on Connie make sure she is doing okay. RIP my dear friend your friend Kevin

I am shocked and saddened by Dave's unexpected passing. I met Dave and Connie a few times while visiting my parents in Tri Palms Estates, Palm Springs. Connie and Dave were great friends and neighbours of our joint friends Karen and Keith McGrath who are next door neighbours down there. Dave was so positive, energetic and motivated! We went golfing on the 9-hole par 3 there, and I admired his game and his sportsmanship, made me feel at ease right away. My deepest condolences to you Connie and your children. -Danny Finch (Ottawa, Ontario)

Dear Connie, Allison and Shaun,
We are saddened by Dave's passing. Memories of ball and hockey games, (lots of armchair quarterbacking there), and the excitement of being inexperienced owners of pug sisters were special times to be remembered.
Sincere sympathy to all.

When Dave retired he called Brian and said okay Morrison you promised to take me to Scotland!! Dave Connie Brian and I flew to Glasgow, picked up a car (that's another story) and after some time in the Perth area drove up the beautiful west coast to Skye. Dave taking pictures of every Highland Cow he saw!! We toured and stayed in Inverness with friends then on to the golf courses Carnoustie and of course St. Andrew's. I had never seen Dave so happy as walking the course of St. Andrews!! These are memories Brian and I will always treasure.

David was a really friendly and happy guy. We met when we both had a place on the golf course in Calif. Connie and David were kind and generous and considerate to me and tried to make sure I wasn't lonely being there by myself.. We sometimes ate together, and they would take me out in the evening for the local entertainment. He was so easy to talk to and always had something funny to say. He would share his photos of places they had been to, knowing others would not be able to travel like they did.
I will miss seeing David this summer when I visit ON again. I hope to see Connie still and I'm sad that Connie has lost her precious husband and Allison and Shaun have lost a caring father. RIP my dear friend, you will be missed but will not be forgotten.
Sending loving thoughts to his family. Jane Barber

My heart is broken with the sadness of my dear friend Dave's sudden passing. Dave and I were study partners in the PHI program at Ryerson back in 1974. We have been friends ever since. We worked together at Stratford PDHU before I left to worked in City of Scarborough HD. Dave had come and stay at my home when we went to several Blue Jays games over the years. We would share our thoughts of PH and the future of our profession. Dave is always so positive about life and to live it to the fullest. In my last chat with Dave on May 27th, he was so positive that he will overcome this. Wendy and I wish to express our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers are with his beloved wife, Connie and beautiful children Allison and Shaun. RIP Dave, my friend and my brother. We will all missed you.
With love always,
Henry & Wendy Chong
