Obituary of Fedora Concetta Donato
DONATO, Fedora Concetta (nee Scarpelli).
Peacefully with her family by her side, Fedora Donato died at Greenway Retirement Home in Brampton on Monday August 14, 2023 at the age of 96.
She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph (1994). Loving mother of Nuccia Morelli & the late Max of Barrie, Josie Wade & her husband Jim Shewchun of Brampton, and Annette Wittig of Oakville. Dear sister of Anna Mazzuca of Italy and the late Maria Bafaro. Cherished grandmother of Jason Wade of Victoria, and Cara-Lynne Wade & her husband Darryl Silva of Toronto and great-grandmother of Adrianna and Marcus Silva. Loving Aunt of Lina, Marisa, Francesco, the late Ermanna Bafaro, Franco and Antonietta Mazzuca, all of Italy. Caring family friend of Tony Scarpelli and Pina Lavoratorio. Predeceased by her parents Ernesta and Pasquale Scarpelli.
Fedora was born and raised in Rovito, Italy, where she met and wed her husband Joseph. After the birth of their first two children, Nuccia and Josie, Fedora left Italy with the family to join her husband, who had previously emigrated to Canada. The family arrived in Windsor, ON and five years later their third daughter, Annette, was born. They eventually moved to Sarnia, where Fedora lived after the death of her husband and before moving to Brampton for the last years of her life.
As a grandmother, Fedora will be remembered for her sense of humour and affectionate laughter; reminiscing and story-sharing; cooking and baking: the pride she took in the upkeep of her home and yard and for always greeting us with a hug and a “i miei tesori”. As a great-grandmother, Fedora will be remembered for her big loving hugs. Fedora always desired the best for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and encouraged and supported them in many ways.
Fedora leaves us with the gifts of courage, independence, creativity, hospitality and persistence in all life-matters. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to give deep gratitude to all the staff at Greenway Retirement Home for their heartful work throughout the years. Thank you especially to the staff who cared for and connected with Fedora over her time there.
Visitation will be held at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 Christina St., N., Sarnia on Monday August 21, 2023, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Private Entombment at Our Lady of Mercy Mausoleum, Sarnia.
