Obituary of Norma Eleanor O'Brien
Peacefully at Twin Lakes Terrace, Sarnia, Norma O’Brien died on August 17, 2023 at the age of 96 years. Dearly beloved wife of the late Patrick O’Brien (2002). Loving mother of Colleen DeMille (David) of Belleville, Tim O’Brien (Catherine) of Burlington, Marty O’Brien (Lesley) of Ottawa, Christopher O’Brien of Toronto, Jennifer Dennis (Mark) of Sarnia, and Terry O’Brien (Debra Rodd) of London. Cherished grandmother to Jacqui, Megan, Claire, Shannon, Tara, Sean, Patrick, Michael, Daniel, Rod, Taylor and great-grandmother to Oliver, Mackenna, Aiden, Jaxon and Charlie.
Norma was actively involved in her church serving as a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 50 years. As a member of the St. Joseph’s Auxiliary, Norma volunteered many hours of service. She was also an avid bridge player who loved playing with both her friends and competitively. Norma volunteered convening the duplicate bridge program at the Strangway Community Centre and assisted at various special events. She received a 20-year Volunteer Service Award in 2014 for her contributions to the Strangway Community Centre. Her other passion was hosting family celebrations and gatherings with friends and family. Whenever there was a special occasion, you could always count on Norma to do it up with style.
Visitation will be held at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia on Monday, August 21 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. where prayers and eulogies will be offered at 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict’s Church on Tuesday, August 22 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
Norma was a strong advocate for a number of organizations supporting area citizens and for this reason we would welcome donations to Lambton Elderly Outreach, Sarnia Strangway Community Centre, St. Benedict’s Catholic Women’s League, Heart and Stroke Foundation Sarnia-Lambton, or the Canadian Cancer Society Sarnia-Lambton.
