Obituary of Mary Oliver
OLIVER, Mary (nee Docherty) – Peacefully with her family at her side, Mary Oliver died at Sumac Lodge on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the age of 80. Beloved wife of the late Robert (Bob) Oliver (2010). Loving mother of Heather (Brent) Patterson, Bright’s Grove, Stephanie (Eric) Scholey, Amherstburg and Angus (Tammy) Oliver, Sarnia. Cherished grandmother of Hayden and Garrett Patterson and Gavin and Cara Scholey. Dear sister of John (Nan) Docherty, Sarnia and Daniel (Sally) Docherty, Windsor. Sister-in-law of William (late Betty) Oliver, Gourock, Scotland. Predeceased by her parents John & Mary Docherty and sisters Elizabeth (Betty) McAnulty (Jimmy) and Marion Thomson (Hughie).
Mary loved her family more than life itself. Mary & her husband Bob immigrated to Sarnia from Scotland in 1967. She was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Mary’s biggest passion in life was dancing and she continued dancing well into her 70s. She cherished her involvement with the Sarnia Scottish Country Dancing Society. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Sumac Lodge, Rosewood Manor and Lambton Elderly Outreach, for their compassionate care over the years for Mary. We couldn’t have done it without them.
Mary & Bob loved to travel and go on new adventures. They particularly loved visiting Bellaire, Michigan because of how much it reminded them of Scotland. She is now reunited with Bob to continue the next step in their journey.
