Martin Hemstreet

Obituary of Martin Hemstreet

HEMSTREET, Martin Vincent — Martin passed away at Bluewater Health on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the age of 71. Beloved husband of Brenda (Gagnon) for 48 years. Dear father of Kevin Hemstreet (Sheina), Charlene Hemstreet (Robert), and William Hemstreet (Susan). Adored Grampy of Osiris, Vincent, Brittany, Tamus, Julia, Billi Ann, Elli and Gage. Cherished Great-Grampyof Tanner. Brother of Rosemary Fowler (late Robert), Jerry Hemstreet (Ellen), and Mary MacDonald. Predeceased by his parents Francis and Teresa Hemstreet, brother Robert Hemstreet and nephew Scott MacDonald. Marty was a man of many trades — serving in the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy), working as a welder for many years, and spending 23 years as a stationary engineer at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

He had a knack for taking beautiful photos (even owning his own photography business), and earned his black belt in judo. Marty took pride in his organic garden and had a fondness for feeding others — always cooking meals for his family, a passion passed on to his children.

He also loved the outdoors — hunting, fishing and camping — and found joy in spending time with his grandchildren, and dogs Chevy and Milo.

Martin's family woud like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and support staff on Telemetery and Palliative Care for their excellent care of Martin. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

At Martin’s request cremation has taken place and a private interment at Our Lady of Mercy will be held. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 286 Front St. N., Sarnia. Arrangements entrusted to the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 519-344-3131. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Inn of the Good Shepherd, 115 John St., Sarnia, N7T 2R1 or the charity of their choice.
