Obituary of David Evan Hopkins
HOPKINS, David – Peacefully in his sleep at Bluewater Health, David Evan Hopkins has gone home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, August 18th, 2024 at the age of 89. David was born in Maesteg, South Wales on July 13, 1935. He is survived by his sister Rita (Frank) Marshall and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother and father Evan and Rachel Hopkins, sisters Dolena (George) Davies, Mary (John) Nicholas, and brother John (Barb) Hopkins.
David immigrated to Canada as a young school boy from Wales in 1949 with his family. After graduating high school, David worked as a Brakeman at CNR, Polysar as a Lab Technician and in the lumber business as a driver, however, his true passion was always music. David was an extremely talented musician and singer who could play several instruments but excelled at playing the piano. Growing up in the church he sang and played many songs and gospel hymns. His talent led him to become a member of the musician’s union and he played throughout Ontario, Quebec and Michigan. Later in life he entertained seniors regularly at Vision Nursing Home and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching baseball regularly and followed the Toronto Blue Jays.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him but especially Jeff and Susan and the Nicholas family who provided love and support for him. Special thanks to the staff at Bayshore, and most recently Lori, and neighbour Vickie for their outreach and support for David.
