I met George in KL in ’74. He hired me as a salesman at the Northern Daily News. The first week we travelled up to Timmins Daily Press for a training session. I drove up with the other salesmen but on the way back George pulled me aside and asked me to drive back with him. On the return trip he asked, “Do you smoke grass?” I didn’t know what to say – I didn’t know him and fearing for my new job I played it safe and said, “Yeah, I tried it a few times at college.” About a week later he invited me over for dinner he got me so stoned the evening was a confused blur. It was my introduction to George’s world. He was the kind of person who, once met, you didn’t want to lose touch with. We have been friends since the newspaper days. I don’t smoke weed anymore but one night, when the time is right, I will ‘spark up a fatty’ and remember my old friend.

I know George and Wendy growing up in Swastika. They were always so kind. George was so funny and friendly but never offensive. He had a special twinkle in his eye. I really adored George. I haven’t seen him for years but have very very fond memories of laughs together. He will be missed by all. My deepest condolences to Wendy and all of his family and friends. Anna Roman

Wendy and family, Sorry for your loss. Geo was the life of the party, can't thank him and Wacky enough for the Bellevue days allowing us local musicians a place to play. Always remember the good, and it will ease the pain in your hearts. Darren "Hairy" Phillips

As a kid growing up in Kirkland Lake… there were many characters and personalities. Bei g that far north seemed to eliminate any copy cats… people just being themselves in whichever way they grew.
That’s George. I remember probably the funniest guy around… belting out jokes and one liners or whatever suited him. Trying his hand at different businesses… inventing things… loved the outdoors…sports… this guy walked his own line. And pretty much loved by all… a delicate balance but George did that

I’ll never forget the first day I met G.O. George was visiting from Kirkland Lake and Alan and I went to visit him (and Marty) out on Golden Mile. I don’t think I ever laughed so hard for so long. George was the funniest man I had ever met and he was the easiest person to be introduced to. Happy travels G.O. I hope we meet again
