Sincere sympathy to the family. Doc Jim will be missed by his Sunrise family!
On Saturday as I was headed to (yet another) funeral I noticed a man in a wheelchair struggling to wheel himself up a hill along Main St in my home town. I pulled over and approached him, asking if I could lend a hand. He hesitated then said "That would be nice, thank you." Up the hill we went and I discovered he still needed to navigate a ramp into the bank so I wheeled him inside and we parted ways... both richer for the experience.
Fly high and free, Jim! xo

I was an intern at York Finch Hospital in 1980-81 when Jim was the Chief of surgery. He was a great mentor and taught me a lot about life and the practice of medicine and I still find my self explaining things to patient's and making clinical decisions based on the "pearl's of wisdom" that he graciously passed on to the junior doctor's during my internship. I also still remember some of the stories of his adventures in general practice early in his career on the prairies i.e. shooing the chickens out of the bedroom of a woman before delivering her baby at home on her farm. He will be missed by family, friends, patients and colleagues

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Dr. Lanskail. I had the good fortune to have him attend at the Hospital I was brought to when I had a major car accident in 1977. He not only saved my legs but my life. He was the only one who even considered not removing both my legs and as it turned out, thanks to him, I have been able to walk well for most of the years following extensive therapy and subsequent surgeries. Through Dr. Bette Stephenson and her association with Dr. Lanskail I was able to thank him. I just wanted to thank his family for sharing his medical skills with myself and his many patients.

I was saddened to read about Jim's passing. I got to know Jim when he was my mom's neighbour at MGM. Me being an OR nurse and Jim a surgeon we had some great surgery related conversations. It was an honour to know him! My sincere sympathies to his family.

I had a great affection for Jim. Loved his ready wit, his joie de vivre. As a surgeon, he was very bright, very practical, a fine teacher, with great communication skills. In my early years as a surgical trainee, he was extremely helpful, and had a big influence on my career. Later on he became a personal friend, and we had many opportunities to golf, dine, and joke together. I will always remember him telling me of the huge scalp laceration he got while water skiing in the Kawarthas, with Kenny applying a pressure dressing to his head, while he drove himself to the hospital for repairs! Only Jim would be able to see the humour in such a situation.
A great man----I will miss him.
