Obituary of Barbara Catherine Gilchrist

GILCHRIST, Barbara Catherine – Unexpectedly at home due to a stroke on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the age of 70. Beloved wife of Jim for 50 years. Dear mother of Jeanne Gilchrist (Brian Strang), Boston, Karen Gilchrist, Toronto and Amy Gilchrist (Jamie MacPherson), Sarnia. Loving grandmother of Evan, Claire, Mary and Hana. Sister of Rosie Akizuki (Bob), Vancouver, Janie Adamson (Bill), Courtney, B.C., Lorraine Kennedy (Drew), Kelowna, B.C., Linda Anglehart (Yves), Quebec, James Adams (Linda), Edmonton and Dougie Adams (Joanne), Edmonton. Sister-in-law of Gloria Segin, Richmond, B.C. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Mary & Jim Adams. Barb’s life was shared with so many people including those involved with golf, curling, gardening, photography, bowling, cards (only if Canadian rules were applied), puzzling, travel, camping and sewing. Maintaining family and friend relationships was Barb’s greatest pleasure which she did by planning trips in the Fiver and reunions all over Canada and the US. She organized family games, competitions, golf tournaments and the legendary corner-to-corner complete with tin foil trophy. She was the Queen of dinner parties—we loved her cooking including the world’s best stuffing and home made brownies. Mom embraced Sarnia as her true home and made everyone who met her feel like a part of her larger family. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Living Hope Church, 1281 Exmouth St. on Thursday, March 29 at 3 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 519-344-3131.
